Charleston Shark Teeth Hunting Partners With ByteZero

On June 18, 2026 we announced that ByteZero had become the digital marketing partner of Charleston Shark Teeth Hunting, the Mount Pleasant boat tour company that takes guests across Charleston Harbor to hunt for fossilized shark teeth, Megalodon teeth included. We took over the website, Google Ads, search engine optimization, social media, and content and review work in one go. Five months on, most of that work is live, and the first search numbers are in.

In the first month after the new site launched (June to July 2026), Google Search Console showed impressions rising from 1,623 to 5,018 and clicks from 21 to 105, with average position moving from 38 to 14. Those figures, and how we got them, are on the Charleston Shark Teeth Hunting case study.

Key Takeaways

  • One team now runs the site, the ads, the search work and the reviews, so all of it reads from the same booking data.
  • Tours board at Shem Creek Marina in Mount Pleasant. The largest boat, the Roamer IV, seats 23, and every boat runs with a US Coast Guard licensed captain.
  • In the first month after launch (June to July 2026), Google showed the site about three times as often as before, and clicks rose roughly fivefold.
  • Sister brand LowCountry Coastal Excursions is a ByteZero client too; its Google Ads returned 5.6 times ad spend in July 2026.
  • The booking calendar on the site reads live seats from Rezdy, so a visitor can pick a trip and pay without calling.

Who Charleston Shark Teeth Hunting is

The company runs guided trips from Shem Creek Marina, about fourteen minutes from downtown Charleston over the Ravenel Bridge according to its own site. The headline trip is the shared Shark Tooth Hunt: four hours, timed to the tide, landing on Morris Island where guests search the beach for shark teeth and Megalodon teeth. Around that sit a two-hour sunset harbor cruise, private dolphin and sunset charters, private shark tooth charters of three or four hours, and party cruises.

The boat most people see in photos is the Roamer IV, which seats 23. The captains are US Coast Guard licensed. The owners had built a trip that guests loved. What they did not have was a website and search presence that matched it.

What we took on in June 2026

Ron Davies, ByteZero's founder, put it this way when we announced the deal: "Our job is to make the brand just as easy to find online as it is to love in person." In practice that meant five streams of work, all run by one team so they share the same data.

WorkWhat it coversHow we judge it
WebsiteA fast, mobile-first rebuild with live availability and bookingBookings started from the site
Google AdsSearch campaigns aimed at people already planning a Charleston tripBooked trips and calls, by campaign
SEOFossil-tour pages and local search for Mount Pleasant and CharlestonSearch Console impressions, clicks and position
Google Business ProfileProfile, categories and photos for map resultsCalls and direction requests
Social and reviewsPosts of real trips and finds, plus review requests after each tripSteady flow of new reviews

A few of the practical changes we made on the site: the shared hunt, the sunset cruise and the private charters each got their own page instead of sharing one tour list; the booking calendar shows seats left for each departure; and a wildlife calendar tells visitors that bottlenose dolphins are around all year, loggerhead turtles and manatees in summer, roseate spoonbills from June to August and bald eagles in winter. That last section answers a question guests ask before they book: what will we see?

Tourism is a short-window business. A visitor decides on Tuesday what to do on Saturday, often from a phone in a hotel room, so the site has to show availability and take a booking in a few taps. That shaped the build more than anything else.

What the first month showed

We use Search Console for organic numbers because it is Google's own count, and the impression figure means exactly this:

Impressions: How often someone saw a link to your site on Google.

Search Console Help, What are impressions, position, and clicks?

In the first month after launch (June to July 2026), impressions roughly tripled, from 1,623 to 5,018. Clicks went from 21 to 105. Average position moved from 38, which is page four, to 14, on page two. Page two is still not where a tour company wants to live. The shared hunt page, for example, now answers where the boat goes (Morris Island), how long the trip is (four hours) and why the time changes (the tide), three questions visitors type into Google before they book.

Best Charleston shark teeth hunting searches, and what people ask

When we mapped the searches, a pattern stood out. People do not only search for a tour. They ask where the best spot to find shark teeth is, whether there is a shark tooth tour in Charleston, South Carolina at all, and when the Charleston shark teeth hunting season is. A site that answers those questions plainly earns the click from the people who are closest to booking.

So the pages answer them with the operator's own facts. The best spot on these trips is Morris Island, reached by boat. There is no fixed season on the site; the shared hunt is scheduled around the tide, which is why departure times shift. And yes, there is a tour, with a booking calendar that shows real seats.

The sister brand: LowCountry Coastal Excursions

Charleston Shark Teeth Hunting operates from the same Shem Creek dock and boats as LowCountry Coastal Excursions, which runs private harbor cruises, dolphin tours, inshore fishing charters and celebration cruises out of Shem Creek. We work on both brands, because the same visitor often looks at both before booking.

On the paid side the numbers are strong. Google Ads for LowCountry Coastal Excursions returned 5.3 times ad spend in June 2026 and 5.6 times in July 2026, with 110 trips booked in July. Return on ad spend here is tracked booking value divided by ad spend, the same ratio Google Ads Help describes as conversion value for each dollar spent, with the booking value taken from Rezdy and FareHarbor. The LowCountry Coastal Excursions case study has the detail.

How we measure a tour company

Our monthly report for the owners opens with booked trips. Search Console impressions and clicks sit further down, because a Saturday hunt that sells out in July is the result they care about, whatever the traffic graph did that week.

The ROAS figure for LowCountry Coastal Excursions is a good example of how we keep that honest. Google Ads counts the click and the conversion; the revenue side comes from the booking systems, Rezdy and FareHarbor, matched month by month. Where a number on our case studies comes from Search Console instead, the page says so, along with the period it covers.

Why a Los Angeles agency works in Charleston

ByteZero has offices in Van Nuys, California and Huntersville, North Carolina. The account work itself happens inside Google Ads, Search Console and the booking systems, so the desk location matters less than knowing the dock and the tide. Our Charleston digital marketing page lists the other Lowcountry businesses we work with, including a Mount Pleasant house painter whose new site went live in October 2026.

Most of our work for Charleston Shark Teeth Hunting has gone into the stretch between a search and a payment. Visitors tend to compare operators on a phone, and a calendar that shows open seats answers the first question without a phone call.
